How we work

Therapy goes better when it feels safe and unhurried. We try to make the practical parts simple so you can focus on the conversation.

No script

You do not need to prepare. We will ask gentle questions and you can say as much or as little as you like.

Clear about the practical things

Fees, privacy, how sessions run and what happens with a referral are explained before the first session, not after it.

Your say on pace and approach

We will explain the approaches we use and why. If something is not working, tell us and we will change it.

The people you may meet

All of our psychologists are registered with the Psychology Board of Australia.

Elise Hartnett

Registered psychologist

Elise works with adults who feel stretched by work, family or a big change. She is a patient listener and likes a slow cup of tea before a long conversation.

Daniel Mizrahi

Registered psychologist

Daniel sees adults and older teenagers. He prefers plain language to jargon and often draws things on a whiteboard to make sense of them with you.

Noor Hassan

Registered psychologist

Noor sees teenagers and their families. She likes working at the young person's pace and being straightforward with parents about how sessions work.

Ruth Carmody

Practice coordinator

Ruth answers the phone, helps with referrals and rebate questions, and can talk you through who might suit you best.

Your first session

What to expect, so there are no surprises.

  1. Before

A short form and an optional call

You complete a short form with contact details and a few background questions. If you have a GP referral or mental health plan, bring it or send it ahead. The intro call is there if you want to ask anything first.

  2. On the day

    A conversation, not a test

Your psychologist explains how sessions work and how your information is kept private. Then they ask about what brought you in. There is no pressure to cover everything.

  3. After

    A next step you choose

At the end we talk about whether and how to continue. You can book another session, take time to think, or decide it is not the right fit. All are fine.

Questions people ask

Do I need a referral?

No, you can book directly. A GP referral and mental health plan may make you eligible for a Medicare rebate on some sessions, so it is worth asking your GP if it suits you. We confirm the current rebate and any gap when you call.

I do not know what to say. Is that okay?

Yes. Many people feel that way. Your psychologist will start with simple questions and you can go at your own pace.

Can my teenager come on their own?

Teenagers can attend, and many prefer to. We usually meet with the young person and a parent or carer together first, then agree how sessions and information sharing will work. We explain this before the first session.

Are sessions confidential?

Your information is kept private, with the usual limits where the law requires disclosure or where there is a serious risk to safety. Your psychologist will explain this at the start of your first session.

How does telehealth work?

You get a private link to a secure video room. All you need is a device with a camera and a quiet space. If the connection drops, we will call you.

Are you a crisis service?

No. We are not a crisis service, and we cannot respond to urgent situations. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000. If you need to talk to someone now, Lifeline is available on 13 11 14.

Notes from Sound Practice

Why this site is built the way it is

No patient stories, and no feeling-based quotes

A quote about how someone felt after therapy is a statement about a clinical aspect of care, and AHPRA treats such statements as a banned form of endorsement when a practice uses them in advertising. This site has none, and it does not link to review pages. The warmth comes from how the copy is written instead.

Registered psychologist, said plainly

Registration under the National Law gives psychologists a protected title, so the site uses exactly the one the team holds. Bios describe how each person works rather than claiming a title, a ranking or a track record the practice cannot support.

A fit chooser that lowers the first step

Many people are anxious about the first call. A short chooser maps four common situations to what happens next, including a no-charge intro call. It reduces the effort of starting without pushing anyone, and it never suggests a person needs more sessions than they want.

Crisis note kept visible, and the rebate wording kept careful

The site says plainly that it is not a crisis service and points to Lifeline and 000. Medicare is described as something that may apply, with the practice confirming current amounts by phone, so the page cannot go stale or mislead about what a patient will pay.
